The first FIS Worldloppet Cup competition 2017 in Austria, the Dolomitenlauf, was dominated by French skiers. French favorites at the 3rd FIS Worldloppet Cup stage 2017

The elite ladies will start at 8.55 a.m. followed by men at 9.00 with number one favourite Tord Asle Gjerdalen trying to obtain his third consecutive victory. To reach his goal he will have to battle with many top skiers who formerly competed in the World Cup circuit and the whole FIS Worldloppet Cup elite like the red bib wearing Ivan Boiteaux Perrillat or the men in orange from Team Rossignol Gel Interim: Candide Pralong, Bastien Poirrier, Toni Livers etc.

The top favourite ladies are Britta Johansson Norgren, the Swedish marathon skiing star and Seraina Boner from Switzerland, who was one of her biggest competitor over the last seasons. But of course those two have to beat Aurelie Dabudyk (FRA) first. She is wearing the red bib and showed her strenght at the last stage, the Dolomitenlauf.

This year the track is actually less demanding than usual because the OC had to decide to shorten the track to 57 km, instead of the traditional 70 km, and to move the starting point to Mazzin. The same happened in 1976 (50 km), 1993 (55 km), 2007 and 2015 (57 km). “The costs associated to the production of artificial snow for the first 13 km would have been too high and we therefore decided to focus on the track quality instead of its length”, explained Marcialonga chairman Angelo Corradini.
