The Gatineau Loppet Organizing Committee is currently wrapping up the preparations for the 39th edition of the biggest international cross-country ski event in Canada. A festive ambiance and temperatures somewhat on the warm side for this time of year greeted skiers from 20 countries around the world for a memorable experience on the trails of Gatineau Park. The weather forecast is promising a great weekend of marathon skiing.

Gatineau Loppet President Philippe Lebel would like to thank all of the skiers who have registered and invites the local population who has yet to do so, to come and join in this great cross country ski celebration. "The Gatineau Loppet is a unique opportunity for Gatineau Park regulars to ski the linear race through three municipalities - Gatineau, Chelsea and La Peche - with people from around the world in a superbly festive atmosphere - music along the trails, historical commentaries, medals for everyone, maple sugar candy, microbrewery beer at the arrivals, and a tuque for every participant in the 51 km races, etc. - while challenging themselves to deliver their personal best," indicated Mr. Lebel.

Tomorrow evening, the Gatineau Loppet will be inducting Pierre Harvey (also Honorary President) into the Legend's Path (hall of fame). The Legend's Path pays tribute to the individuals or organizations connected to the Gatineau Loppet that have marked it or have helped spread the word about the Loppet itself or cross-country skiing in general.

There are still a few spots in the different races, and anyone interested has only to come by as of 5 p.m. today to register.
