The Snow Farm is ready, trails are signed and packed for the final groomer passes. Wanaka is abuzz with X-Country skiers. Inside the Snow Farm Lodge the Worldloppet information centre has been set up alongside the Merino Muster memento shop. Everything is set up for the 3rd and last summer race of the Worldloppet season 2017/18.

Juha Viljamaa, Worldloppet President and Charlie Dee of the American Birkebeiner Board have already arrived in New Zealand, to support the Merino Muster. Also Helen L'Huillier long time secretary of the Kangaroo Hoppet and husband Paul who have been key contributors in assisting New Zealand establishing the Merino Muster will be at the race venue. Weather is forecast to be promising for race day with mild temperatures and little wind, the mountain backdrop is dressed in sparkling white and the access road is clear and ice free.

This year for the first time Merino Muster is an associate event within the Audi Quattro Winter Games which is one of the five largest winter sports events in the world. A number of International teams are training at the Snow Farm for next year’s Winter Olympics in Korea and are entering the Merino Muster as well as the FIS ANCup events which follow. As usual most of our Merino Muster skiers are overseas visitors and there are currently 18 nations with at least one representative in the race.

So we are looking forward to one more great race day on the souther hemisphere tomorrow at the 42 km long skating race at the Snow Farm/NZL.

For all the skiers who are already there, we warmly recomend a visit in the Merino Muster memento shop: It is a real advance on the previous efforts and has items supplied by NZ’s Worldloppet master Dr. Mike Turner from his Worldloppet travels. Mike has lived the Worldloppet dream of skiing around the world. Pride of place however goes to the Chinese Vasaloppet present to the Merino Muster which is a decorated model timber horse.
