Tartu Maraton
05.10.2009

This year 23 680 people crossed the finish line on sporting events organized
by Club Tartu Maraton. On main distances 16 900 participants skied, ran,
cycled and inline-skated. On children races 6244 and on additional courses
(Tartu Maraton Open Track, Estonian Cycling Weekend) 536 people tested their
physical skills.

Altogether 21 615 people (including children) crossed the finish line on SEB
Tartu Complex Event. SEB Tartu Complex Event comprises four sport events. To
get to the overall standings one had to complete The 38th Tartu Maraton, The
SEB 27th Tartu Jooksumaraton, The SEB 28th Tartu Rattaralli and The SEB 12th
Tartu Rattamaraton. The winner of this year series is Raul Olle followed by
Allan Oras and Rait Pallo (all from Estonia).

"Winning the Complex Event makes me feel great, because I have had good
sportive shape all year long. All the competitions gave me positive emotions
and winning the title shows the success of efforts that have been made,"
says Olle. When talking about next year he says that if training discipline
and work duties allow then he will participate on Complex Event again. "It
is easier to win than to defend the title," Raul Olle points out.

The best women were Signe Parm, Tea Pärnik and Mare Ulp. Altogether 480
(hobby) athletes got to the overall standings and 691 people participated on
all four competitions.

The best clubs were Haanja Rattaklubi and Korp Sakala. The best companies
were G4S Eesti and Maxit.

Sport events organized by Club Tartu Maraton are traditionally meant for all
family members. Therefore Tartu MINI Complex Event was also popular with 248
children participating on this year. They were also skating, running and
cycling like their parents. On last year there were 147 children
participating which gives the growth number of 40% .

The Chairman of the board of Club Tartu Maraton Indrek Kelk rejoices that
there are more people in every year ready to race different sport tracks. "I
can only wish - let us meet soon on next season!" says Kelk.

Record year

This year was record-shattering in Club Tartu Maraton history. Cyclists from
18 countries registered for the SEB 12th Tartu Rattamaraton/European MTB
Championships which were held in Estonia for the first time. There were 5092
registered cyclists for 89km and 40km courses and 4668 of them finished the
race. For children there were TILLUrace and MINImaraton where 1621 young
cyclists participated.

Also all the other events have done very well. On 38th Tartu Maraton 4819
skiers were racing on 63km and 31km tracks. 893 youngsters took part from
children races which are 400 more than last year.

On SEB 27th Tartu Jooksumaraton people could choose between 23km and 10km
distances for running or Nordic walking. On this event there were 2673
people crossing the finish line and 1566 young people participating on
children's courses in Tartu, Elva and Otepää.

The record rhythm followed also SEB 28th Tartu Rattaralli with 125km and
61km courses and 3458 cyclist finishing them. The number of participants in
Childrens races was 1917 - the record for the last 20 years.

SEB 3rd Tartu Rulluisumaraton doesn't belong to SEB Tartu Complex Event, but
it has the fastest growing number of participants which shows the popularity
of that event. On this year there were 1282 people finishing 36km or 15km
tracks plus 247 children in shorter distances.

The history of Tartu Complex Event starts from 1998 when the first Tartu
Triple Event (included Tartu Maraton, Rattaralli ja Sügisjooks) took place.
In 2001 mountain bike event was added to the list and Tartu Complex Event
was born.
