The race takes place in Fjord Ólafsfjörður, a fjord is situated at the Troll Peninsula in the North of Iceland, near the Arctic Circle.

Cross country skiers, from all over, come to participate in this unique event in one of the northernmost towns of Iceland, Ólafsfjörður. Fjarðargangan is the only ski-race in Iceland with tracks running through town-streets. Due to this fact, the race is colored by the number of audience and celebration throughout the tracks.
