American Birkebeiner

86-years-old Hannes Larsson finished his 300th Worldloppet race

History was written on the 15th of January 2017 – the day where a Worldloppet skier set new limits. At the open track event of the American Birkebeiner Ski Foundation, the Birkie Tour, Hannes Larsson started Worldloppet race number 300! and like the other 299 he finished it. With this remarkable achievement, the French popular skier sets a record that will remain for a long time – that is for sure.

But not only the impressive number of kilometers that Larsson skied through the past 20 years make that record special, but also his age. Hannes Larsson just celebrated his 86th Birthday some days before gaining the 30th Worldloppet Master Title. He was born in 1931 and tree years later the Frenchman already stood on skies for the first time and in 1996 Larsson started his first Worldloppet race – the Tartu Marathon. During this 20 years period from 1996 to now he skied the Worldloppet races all over the globe several times: an average of 15 races per season!

The Worldloppet International Skifederation wants to congratulate Hannes Larsson to this incomparable achievement and say thank you for the loyalty. This is what Worldloppet is about: Ski around the world!
