As there were almost no international skiers at the starting line, the chance was more than high, that finally Estonians can celebrate a home victory at Tartu Maraton. And they took the chance!

Tatjana Mannima turned out to not only be the fastest woman today, she also was in the leading group of the men for half of the race, including doing pace making work. She now grabbed the victory now for the third time.

Third Tartu Maraton victory for Tatjana Mannima! Behind her Piret Pärnik and Reeda Tuula-Fjodorov complete the Estonian podium.

It was good to ski with the men for such a long time!

On the men’s side it was Mart Kevin Polluste who brought the Estonian victory home. It took 16 years now, that an Estonian man is standing on top of the podium. He was half a minute faster than his team mate (Team Nordic Jobs Worldwide) Henri Roos. Third man (and Estonian) was Taavi Kaiv.

“I realized that I can’t beat Henri on the finish line and I tried to get away and not look back. In general, the track conditions were very difficult, but the last 3km were the hardest.”

In total 2500 participants joined the original 63-km-race and another 900 started the short distance of 31km. With +2 °C and snowfalls over the night it was not an easy task to wax the skies.
