Finlandia Skimarathon awaits the Worldloppet skiers with original course
Beside the 5th FIS Worldloppet Cup stage in the USA, the American Birkebeiner, a second Worldloppet race is awaiting us this weekend. The Finlandia Ski Marathon will be enjoyed over its planned course this Saturday for the main race & Sunday for the free technique competitions & the Finlandia100. Winter and snow conditions in Lahti and Hollola have been very skimarathonfriendly this year, so no adjustments to the courses are needed. That means a full 50 km course will be used for longer distances.
So far there are 3500 registered skiers in addition to those over 2000 school kids who already enjoyed their Finlandia Ski Marathon at Children’s Finlandia.
After some challenging winters we are pleased to have such a nice winter this time in Lahti and Hollola. As the forecast for weekend looks also more than good, we hope to increase the number of registered skiers by a lot, says Tiina Hernesniemi, secretary general of Finlandia Ski Marathon.
Among participants are well-known Finlandia-Hiihto names lat last year’s winner Kari Varis, Sini Alusniemi and last year’s second, Niko Nättinen. The weekend starts on Saturday with the main race 50 km classic as well as 32 km classic and will be completed on Sunday with 50 km, 20 km and ultra-challenge, the 100 km free. The 100 km event debuted in programme past year in classic and will be held for the first time now in free technique.
