Which Upcoming Worldloppet Races are going to Take Place and How

In times like these, informations changes on a daily basis. We want to give you an overview about current situation at the upcoming Worldloppet events, so you can make a decision either to travel there or not. The good news first: Almost all events can take place somehow.

Marcialonga preparations are fully in swing

5000 skiers from 36 nations are going to stand at the starting line in Moena coming Sunday to ski the Marcialonga. The race organizers have worked out a safety plan, in order to minimize risk and guarantee an enjoyable skiing day for all. Spectators are not allowed to the finish area, but along the tracks. For the participants, the 3G-rule applies (that means, every participant needs either vaccination, recovery or a negative test result).

This year, Val di Fiemme has received less snow than the year before, but with man made snow, 70 km long track of Marcialonga is in best condition.

König Ludwig Lauf as outdoor event

The König Ludwig Lauf is going to take place as outdoor event. That means, that all events taking place around the race, like the bib collection or expo, are taking place outdoors. Skiers need a proof of 2G (that means vaccination or recovery). Registrations are still open, but the starting places are limited and there is no possibility for late entry, so all entries need to be done by 2nd February.

Tartu Maraton got permission for 6000 participants

Very good news are coming in today from the Estonian Tartu Maraton: The government has given a special permit, which allow 6.000 starters at the 48th Tartu Maraton on February 20th. 4000 are allowed for the long distance and 2000 for the short race.

The organizers have prepared a safety plan in cooperation with the Health Board, which will minimize the risks of participating in the event. Masks and a Covid-19 certificate (vaccinated or recovered), crowds will be avoided and the start will take place with 10-minute intervals.

The tracks are in good condition already, as winter has been good so far between Otepää and Elva. Now the organizers still have enough time, to prepare the tracks even better.

A special benefit for Worldloppet Passport holders will be offered for the first time this year: Every Passport holder gets a free waxing service! Check out this benefit offered by Tartu Maraton.

Finlandia Hiihto date moved to 20th February

Due to the situation in Finland the Finlandia Hiihto cannot be organized as planned from 12th to 13th February. The local authorities have imposed restrictions on public events that last until 19th February. So, the Finlandia Hiihto will be organized as a competition on Sunday 20th February, in Classic Style for 65 km, 32 km or 20 km.

In order to participate in this ski marathon, the skier needs a Skipass-level national license or a FIS license. This must be submitted to the organizers per email until 16th February.

All others who still are traveling to Lahti on 12th and 13th February have the possibility to ski the original race course, track the session with a GPS-sportswatch or smartphone and show it as a proof to the organizers. After that, the organizers can hand out a stamp for the Worldloppet Passport.

Also a Virtual edition of this year’s Finlandia Hiihto will be available from 12th February till 19th February. All who finish the virtual challenge are part of a raffle for 10 free entries for 2023.

Gatineau Loppet taking place as outdoor event

This week the Canadian Gatineau Loppet has proudly presented a 100 % outdoor “in-person” edition, adapted to the sanitary measures required by the different levels of public health. Participants need a proof of recognized vaccination and have to commit themselves upon registration to follow the health instructions related to the Covid-19.

On the Gatineau Loppet website you can find a detailed Sanitary Measures Guide.

It is also possible to carry over the value of the 2022 registration to next year until January 30th 2022. Simply send an email to the organizers.

Sapporo Skimarathon cancelled, Virtual Event as alternative

The Omicron strain has been drastically spreading all around Japan, so the organizers of Sapporo Skimarathon had to decide to cancel the physical Sapporo Skimarathon 2022. This decision was heartbreaking, as it is the second cancellation in a row, but the the authorities do not allow a race.

Those who want to support the Sapporo Skimarathon are invited to participate in their virtual event.
