Covid News Update: Vasa, Birken, Finlandia and Tartu

First of all, we can tell you good news from the upcoming Worldloppet races: No cancellations ahead! Sad enough, that the Sapporo Skimarathon had to be canceled, but at least no more yet. Several races have worked with high pressure on security and health concepts to meet the restrictions form local authorities, with success.

No Covid restrictions for 100th Vasaloppet

Since February 9th all formal restrictions about Covid-19 were dropped in Sweden (except few travel restrictions for some non-EU countries). That means, that the Vasaloppet is going to be organized in the normal way we are used to it. Only one minor exception: There won’t be showers and changing rooms in the finish area. A changing area near the clothing bag pick-up station will be prepared tough.

Birken has green light from the authorities

“Good news: Following meeting and discussions with the Health Authorities, we are pleased to confirm that the Birkebeiner Ski Festival will be organized as planned for alle skiers, elite, advanced, children and youngsters.”, states the OC of the Norwegian Worldloppet event.

The circumstances of the race weekend are not 100 percent sure yet, depending on the development of the sanitary situation. But as soon as there is more information, we are going to let you know.

A possible limitation of entries would mean, that the organizers consider the date of registration for each and give priority on the principle first come, first served. Should the organizers be obligated to refuse start to registered participants, then they will offer a refund or transfer to 2023. This applies for limitation or cancellation. If yo are unable to participate the regular cancellation rules apply.

The organizers of Birken strongly recommend to provide a travel insurance before traveling to Norway and Birken.

Here is some official information about entering Norway.

Finlandia Hiihto moved to February 20th

The Finlandia Hiihto organizers were forced to postpone their race to February 20th. But now the good news is, that the restrictions in Finland have been lifted and that means, that everyone can participate on February 20th (in first place, only skiers with FIS-code were allowed). On the new program we find three competitions in Classic Technique: 65km, 32km and 20km.

Registration is possible until February 16th. Those who already have been registered for the old date, they have to re-enter via email to [email protected] also by 16th February.

Sapporo Skimarathon replaced by virtual event

The Sapporo Skimarathon should have been taking place past weekend. But the organizers were forced to cancel it. To give international skiers the chance to still get involved with Sapporo Skimarathon, and to collect another virtual challenge for becoming a Virtual Racer, they have organized the Fun on Sapporo Virtual Race. Check it out, register and support our friends in Japan! –> Registration.

Even tough our races can take place and are access able for internationals, in some countries there are still traveling restrictions. In order to give you an overview, we have collected the official Covid information pages from the Worldloppet member nations. Please make sure to check them:
