2022 should be the year, our southern hemisphere races in Argentina, Australia and New Zealand are going to host international skiers again. Ushuaialoppet, Kangaroo Hoppet and Merino Muster are working with high pressure to organize their events taking place in four months. 

Heavily booked hotels at Kangaroo Hoppet

The pandemic has changed the traveling behavior of Australians. Instead of traveling overseas they are holidaying within Australia. As a result, winter holiday accommodation is already heavily booked at Falls Creek, the venue of Kangaroo Hoppet. So, if you want to travel to the Kangaroo Hoppet 2022, taking place on August 27th, you should hurry with booking your accommodation. (Here are two suggestions: Ski in Ski out & Mount Beauty (30 km from Falls Creek).

Regarding Covid restrictions the situation is changing continually. For the moment only a proof of double vaccination is mandatory to enter Australia. Find here the official  Covid19 information of Australias gouvernment.

Most travelers only need to apply for the eVisitor Visa. You can do this online and it is for free. Check here your Visa requirements in Australia. 

“Hello World!” from Merino Muster

“After over two years New Zealand’s borders are open and we would like to invite you all to come and join us for the Merino Muster on September 3rd 2022.” This is the official statement from Merino Muster’s OC after their meeting earlier this week. 

New Zealand has been in isolation for the past two years. “Now as we learn to adapt to a new normal, we are all very excited to move from running our event in isolation, to now looking forward to participating with our international friends again in this fantastic event.”, says Mary Lee from the Merino Muster Committee.  

The government in New Zealand is opening the border in stages and for this winter they are open to what are defined as “Visa Waiver Countries”, you can find a full list of these at the New Zealand Immagration website.

Everyone planning of coming to Merino Muster 2022 should get in touch with the OC as they are more than happy to help you facilitate your travels. “We have options for accommodation and would love to host you as our first returning international skiers. This winter is shaping up to be busy so please book in with us early to ensure we can secure you accommodation.” 

Ushuaialoppet back with original format and virtual event

On August 14th the Ushuaialoppet in Tierra del Fuego (Argentina) is going to open the Worldloppet season 2022/23. Our Argentinian member race is back with its original format over 42 km and 21 km. But as this race is taking place at the end of the world, the organizers have decided to additionally offer a virtual event, so everybody has the chance to be part of the Ushuaialoppet somehow.

The registration for 2022’s comeback edition will open with May.

At the moment entering Argentina is allowed for everybody, no restrictions at the moment. Her you can check current rules. Also a visa is not needed.
