Dolomiten Lauf

The Dolomitenlauf has not been canceled for many years now, making it a permanent element in the annual FIS-calendar. The organizer provides snow guarantee at the Obertilliach venue and also hopes to be able to prepare the original route at the foot of the Lienz Dolomites like in the good old times.  In any case, participants from all over the world no longer need to fear this popular open cross-country skiing race may be canceled and true to the motto “Everyone a winner over themselves”, the 43^rd edition of the Dolomitenlauf will be held at the end of January 2017 as scheduled. 

Opening with the Romantiklauf (Romance Race)

The 43^rd Dolomitenlauf-festival games will be opened on Thursday, 19 January 2017 with the Romantiklauf in Lavant. From 6:00 pm, cross-country skiers old and young, from beginners to specialists are invited. On Friday, the 20^th January, following the opening celebration at the main square of Lienz (6:30 pm) with the lighting of the Dolomitenlauf flame, the Dolomite Sprint will be held in the old quarter of Lienz. At the oldest cross-country skiing sprint in the world, some 40 international top athletes will once again face off. 

On 21st and 22nd of January, the highlights for guests from all around the world follow: On Saturday, the Dolomiten-Classicrace, which is part of the Worldloppet, is on the program and on Sunday, the 43rd Dolomitenlauf in freestyle (FIS Worldloppet Cup and Worldloppet race) follows.

“We will announce whether both competitions will be held in Obertilliach or on the Lienz valley floor. Because of the location of Obertilliach at 1,450 meters above sea level, we will be able to stage the long distances there in any event”, describes organizer Franz Theurl.
