Ushuaia Loppet 2022 ready to kick off Worldloppet season

Tomorrow, Thursday August 11th, is the last day to register for the most anticipated comeback: the Ushuaia Loppet 2022. The Ushuaia Andean Club has confirmed this ahead of the international competition on Sunday, August 14th. The participants will open the Worldloppet season 2022/23 at the Tierra Mayor Winter Center, Argentina.

After having passed two editions in virtual mode, the great festival of continental cross-country skiing will take place at the End of the World again. The 10th Ushuaia Loppet and 34th Marchablanca once again bring together local families and international athletes. The Provincial Cross-Country Ski Track (PIPEF) lead through a unique and impressive natural setting.

Around 300 skiers at Ushuaia Loppet 2022

The first registration period began on July 1st and ended on the 31st with a good number of entries. 214 registered participants so far ensure the presence of 9 different nations on Fuegian snow. The organizers count with approximately 300 in total.
“This event has more than 40 years of history, it is a festival of Fuegian sports! A unique event that brings together families, athletes and lovers of cross-country skiing. We expect national and international skiers who come to Tierra del Fuego from the United States, Canada, Keny, Chile… Many of them will stamp their Worldloppet Passports at the End of the World”, Martin Bianchi highlighted from the Fuegian Institute of Tourism.

For his part, Pablo Valcheff, chief organizer of the Ushuaialoppet added: “We have the circuit in perfect condition for the weekend. The Marchablanca festival is back and that is a source of joy for all Fuegians who made this event great. We want to continue making history.”
The 21 km long lap with 234 meters climb (for the long distance, two laps will be skied) is in best condition and the weather forecast is promising a great race weekend: -1 to -5 degrees and light snow falls.
