Worldloppet-Weather: Spring is coming!
Worldloppet-Weather expert, Niklas Sieger from Siegerwetter, one more time looks into the weather-maps for us and explains what awaits us for the last FIS Worldloppet Cup stage 2016 – the Ugraloppet.
Spring can’t be stopped any more – but don’t worry… Easter is over and spring is coming. The weather is not always fair but luckily this year also Easter was quite mild, and the next days are going to be even warmer.
Storm Jeanne has moved on to Central Norway and with him his masses of polar air. Currently an area with low pressure is developing on the Portuguese coast, which means that on Thursday warm air from North Africa is transported to Central Europe. At the front between the warm and the cold air it will rain a lot, this concernes especially the middle of Germany. In other areas it is quite calm. Northern Europe will remain under the influence from storm Jeanne with cold air while Central Europe as well as the Mediterrenean area and South-Eastern Europe will get a lot of sun combined with very warm air for this season. 20 to 25 degrees are possible in lower lands, and this is also the tendency for the week-end and the beginning of next week. Spring can’t be stopped any more and this is good as April is beginning soon and people can’t wait for going for a walk in the sun – but you can also ski in the sun. Snow conditions in the ski areas were seldom as good as at this time. Unfortunately, most ski areas lock in April, so you need to go skiing until the season is over.
For the Ugra Ski Marathon in Khanty-Mansiysk (Russia) on Friday I only have good-news. It will be a quite sunny day with just a few high clouds, but they won’t really disturb the sun. It will also stay dry and there won‘t be much wind, so there will be best conditions for the race in Russia. Temperatures will rise from -5 degrees in the morning to around 0 degrees in the afternoon. This means that you will still need the winter jacket, but in the warming sunlight it will be quite comfortable for you to watch it.
So enjoy sun at the week-end, hopefully you can. And don’t worry about the spring coming – next winter is also coming for sure! Have fun, whatever you do at the week-end!
