Worldloppet-Weather: Marcialonga not harmed by weahter conditions

Yes, it’s carneval which is maybe the reason why winter dresses himself as spring this week. Mild air masses from the Atlantic Ocean are making their way nearly to the whole continent and together with the sun they really send greetings from spring. This week, temperatures almost throughout whole Europe remain consistently above zero with peaks during the day at 5°C at 2000 m altitude and 0°C in 3000 m height. At night it gets frosty, but not everywhere. In some places, especially where chinook wind is blowing, temperatures stay above the freezing point all the time. In addition, it is often very sunny with some high clouds.

A few centimeters of fresh snow is coming from Thursday to Friday and on Sunday in some parts of Middle Europe, in the Southern Alps it remains dry once again. Due to this, also the Marcialonga in Val di Fiemme/Val di Fassa on Sunday should not be harmed by the weather. Although the sky will be cloudy and the sun will shine occassionally, it will stay dry at temperatures around 10°C in the valley at about 860 m altitude. This mild weather is expected to continue as well during the next week. A few fronts may cross the Alps next week, but concerning the mild air masses from the Atlantic Ocean we can say for now that there’s no real end of it in sight as long as we can look into the future – which is approximately until the end of next week.
