Worldloppet-Weather: It’s getting milder in Europe

Worldloppet-Meteorologist Niklas Sieger about this week’s weather.

What has been mentioned as a possibility last week, is now going to get real. At the end of this week temperatures are going up again. After some very frosty days until Saturday, from Sunday on temperatures will only know one way: up.

In Switzerland, the Northern parts of Austria und in Eastern Europe about 10-20 centimeters of natural snow are possible until the end of this week. No or not much snow will hit the Southern parts of Europe. Temperatures in Middle and Eastern Europe are going to stay low until Saturday with about -5 to -10 degrees in about 1500 m heigth. But warm air is going to make its way beginning from France and Switzerland, were about 0 degrees will be measured on Friday. And on Sunday this mild air reaches also Germany, Austria and the West of Hungary with about 0 degrees in 1500 m heigth, next week even more with about 0-5 degrees. The more in the West, the milder. The more in the East, the colder. The East of Hungary for example will stay frosty. But France is expected to get 5 degrees in the mountains. However, the fight between warm air from the west and cold air from the East isn’t over yet which means that a comeback of the cold air at the end of next week still seems possible, even though the probability isn’t very high, but at least it is possible. And we don’t know yet what comes up in February, so there is still everything possible in this winter. What comes up then, we will talk about next week.
