Petr Novak wins Vasaloppet China 2016
Last season he won the FIS Marathon Cup (now FIS Worldloppet Cup), this season he also starts with a victory: Petr Novak from Czech Republic travelled at short notice to Vasaloppet China and… won it. In the ladie´s race, the local Ma Qinghua won the race.
Today the Worldloppet-Winterseason finally started with the Vasaloppet China. With icy temperatures, plenty of artificial snow and a bit of natural white, the OC of Vasa China prepared perfect conditions for their skimarathon over 50km in Changchun’s Jingyuetan Park. Besides beeing the fist Worldloppet race in the winter season, the Vasaloppet China was also part of the China Tour de Ski.
In sunny conditions and – for Changchun – relatively mild – 8°C, Novak showed his strength and opened up a gap to his pursuers quite early in the race and nobody was able to close it. But the fight for place 2 and 3 was very close as it finally turned into a sprint at the finishing straight between 20 years old Swede Emil Persson, who closely won against Daniel Maka from Czech. Behind Geir Ouren, the fourth, the Tour-de-Ski-China-Overall-Leader Emil Johansson – again from Sweden – became fifth.
Ma Qinghua was fastest woman, using her experience of previous participations. With a lead of three minutes she beat Adela Boudikova and Terese Andersson – third. Lisa Svensson with her fifth place is now leading the Tour de Ski China.
