La Transjurasienne: Your date for St. Valentine’s day
When the 38th edition of La Transjurasienne takes place during the second weekend of February (on St. Valentine’s day), it will be exactly 20 years after Hervé Balland, the first French World-Championship-medalist, won the longest ski marathon of France for the second and last time. Back then, the French Worldloppet was still 76 km long and hence the second longest ski marathon in the world. Nowadays the race totals 68 km, yet is still the third longest marathon right behind Italy´s Marcialonga (70 km) abd the Swedish Vasaloppet (90 km).
The winning time of last year’s La Transjurasienne (the first 68 km race) and the time to beat is Jeremie Millerau´s (FRA) 3:19,35. Generally, the French are dominating their home race: Last year, the whole podium was Tricolor, while the women´s race was also won by France. Four out of the last five male and female editions were claimed by a French competitor. Interestingly, at La Transjurasienne, French participants do make up 80% of the annual 7100 starters. Every year however, the world elite of marathon skiing competes in France as the skating race of La Transjurasienne is the fourth station of the FIS Worldloppet Cup.
For those who still seek a challenge after 68 km of skate skiing or the Transju’classic (56 km CT), the UltraTrans, a combination of both races, is taking place both on Saturday and Sunday. In 2015, the victory in UltraTrans was claimed by Italy´s Sergio Bonaldi.
The Trans’Oranistion is an association organizing La Transjurasienne, La Transjeune (youth race day) and La Transju’trail, the summer trail race. Promoted by the French Nordic combined star, Olympic gold medalist, multiple World Championship winner Jason Lamy Chappuis, their new press kit was released. A video starring him can also be enjoyed.
The registration for the 38th La Transjurasienne from the 12th to the 14th of February 2016 is open and to be done on their offical website. Until 15th of November there is a cheaper entry fee available!
