Countdown to Kangaroo Hoppet
The 24th Kangaroo Hoppet will be held next Saturday, 23 August, at Falls Creek in south east Austalia. Almost 1000 entries have been received from 24 nations. While many skiers have already arrived to prepare for the event, a number are expected to arrive via New Zealand in the next few days after taking part in last weekend’s Merino Muster, one of the new Associate Member races of the Worldloppet family.
A long spell of lovely sunny weather has ensured great skiing for the locals, but has had a significant impact on a three kilometre section of the course. With no large snowfalls expected this week organisers expect that they will have to make some small changes to the course of the main race.
The Hoppet is the final race of the Australia New Zealand Continental Cup, and with Swiss Valerio Leccardi and Australian Phil Bellingham tied in top places in the men’s rankings, and Australians Jessica Yeaton and Esther Bottomley equal first women, this year’s Hoppet results will decide who wins the Cup.
