Sandra Hansson aims for Vasaloppet 2015!
Sandra Hansson has won Vasaloppet twice , but this year she will unfortunately miss the opportunity. The flu that hit her in connection with the first race in the long distance World Cup “Swix Ski Classics” in January , became prolonged.
– I have start training but it feels too early to perform in a race right now. This is an extreme test of strength to squeeze the maximum of 90 km , and it requires a body that is top trained and completely 100%. Off course it is very sad to miss Vasaloppet, unfortunately I got sick at the wrong time – especially as our race season is so short and intense, says Sandra.
Now she directs the focus on the two remaining races, Norwegian Birkebeinern and Swedish Årefjällsloppet later in March .
– It’s important to look forward and continue fighting. I want to perform well in these big and important races.
Fortunately skiing have developed to be an all year sport, roller skiing has increased tremendously in popularity. As long as Im healthy, there are races available every weekend, but first I want to get a good finish on snow.
Regardless I’m a fighter that never gives up and last summer / autumn I felt stronger than ever and before and I will get there again, Sandra finishes.
Sandra adds with Vasaloppet tips to participants:
– Remain calm in “ski waxing hysteria” in the Vasaloppet tent, save the energy for the race instead! Are you unsure about waxing so leave it to those who can. I recommend highfluor waxing with manual grinding this year.
Eat and drink a little extra from Thursday . On race day , you should drink and eat even between the controls.
Do like us and take nutrition evenly every 5 km. Have a positive inner dialogue and try to have fun along the track.
– I wish my team mates and all other skifriends good luck on sunday!
