Although Birken Ski Event 15^th of march 2014 is fully booked, it is still open for foreign skiers due to Birken’s special allocation system this year.
“ We want to promote Birken abroad and wish foreign skiers welcome by quoting 1500 start numbers to them” says Jean-Francois Gehin, Marketing Manager for foreign markets. “Birken is an unforgettable challenging long-distance cross-country ski race and the world’s largest with 17 000 participants. All skiers should experienced this unique ski race which crosses 2 mountains on a 54 km course, from Rena to Lillehammer. Help for booking of accommodation and transport is also provided if needed.” he adds.

FredagsBirken 14^th of March, Friday’s Birken,  is also open for registration offering the same course and services as the main race on Saturday. The atmosphere is just a little more relaxed with less participants and no chasing of the famous “Birkenmerket”.

Both races commemorates the heroic journey of two warriors with the infant prince over the mountains in 1206 and participants must therefore carry a 3,5 kg backpack to symbolize the weight of the baby.
