Werro and Chautemps win emotionally at Engadin Skimarathon 2023
What an exciting finish at the 53rd edition of the Engadin Skimarathon 2023. It was a question between France and Switzerland to be on top of the podium this year. In the end, the Frenchmen turned out to be the strongest. But not in the ladie’s race, there a local skier was able to celebrate an emotional home vitory.

Roman Fruger and Dario Cologna have been the big favorites together with Maurice Manificat, when the race started this morning at 08:15. But 7 km before the finish it was French Victor Lovera who attacked and gained a lead of about 15 seconds to the chasing group. Only 1.5 km before the finish the chasers catched him. In the end, another Frechman was able to outsprint the rest and rising his hands to victory in S-Chanf, the finish of the Engadiner: Arnaud Chautemps. Followed by his best friend Tom Mancini. Third place goes to Switzerland, to Jason Rüesch.

Emotional home victory in ladie’s competition
A little bit less exciting but still same impressive was the decision in the ladie’s competition. After halfway, Giuliana Werro has found a good group of men skiing together with and kilometer by kilometer she formed a gap between here and her challengers. In the end, she finished under tears with a lead of 27 seconds ahead for second placed Naja Kälin, last year’s winner. Anja Weber finishing another 4 seconds later is completing the Swiss podium. “It is unbelievable for me to win here. I live here, I train here, my family and friends are here. Unbelievable. I am just happy!”, she says and couldn’t hold back her tears.
