The world’s largest MTB event for children took place in Estonia
Today, on the 14th of September, the SEB 16th Tartu Rattamaraton children’s races were held – over 2500 children took part. Taking into account the number of participants, it is the largest mountain bike event, specially organized for children.
2697 children enrolled in the races – 1914 of them in TILLUrace (with distances 400, 700 meters and 1 kilometer) and 783 in MINImarathon (5,1 kilometers). It is the biggest number of participants in SEB Tartu Rattamaraton children’s races’ history, last year 2242 children took part.
The first child who crossed the finish line for 700 meters distance, 6-year-old Tobias was very glad to receive his medal: “I love biking, I can be first like that!” stated Tobias. He recommended biking for everyone: “It is good, beacause you can work out!”
The SEB 16th Tartu Rattamaraton was the last stage of this season’s Tartu MINI Complex Event 2013. Additionally to biking, children could ski, run and cycle within this year.
“Today’s event was a lovely ending for Tartu MINI Complex Event 2013 and I’m glad there were more children biking than last year,” stated Club Tartu Maraton’s project manager Kunnar Karu. “It was great to see that in all age groups, from 3-year-olds up to 11-12-year-olds, the number of children was big. It shows that children in any age, including their parents, appreciate sporting in the fresh air. Hopefully, this brings children closer to the sports and more actively to participate in different sporting events,” added Karu.
Though Tartu MINI Complex Event 2013 is now finished, there will be one more children’s event held this year by Club Tartu Maraton: on the 5th of October, the 2nd Tartu City Marathon and Tartu City Run children’s races will be held.
Tomorrow, on the 15th of September, the SEB 16th Tartu Rattamaraton with 89 and 40 kilometer distances will be held. Over 5000 bikers are excpected to cross the finish line.
