Record number of children in SEB 31st Tartu Running Marathon – 3115

Record number of children participated today, on May 11th, in SEB 31st Tartu Running Marathon’s children’s events held in Tartu, Estonia. Altogether 3115 children took part in the race, which is 500 children more than last year (2610 children participated in 2012).

The SEB 31st Tartu Running Marathon’s children’s races are the second stage of the Tartu Mini Complex Event 2013 that consists of two parts TILLUraces for up to 8-years-old children and had 2443 participants this year, and MINImaraton meant for up to 12-years-old and older that had 672 participants. Distances varied from 400 meters to two kilometres. All children received a medal, a diploma and many raffle prizes were given out.

Maik, who will take part in tomorrow’s SEB Tartu Running Marathon, was at the event with his two sons: 4-year-old Mihkel and 6-year-old Mattias. He was pleased that such event is organized: “Children should be brought to sport from their early age. As I’m quite active myself, it’s nice to enjoy sports activities with my children!”

Kairi, mother of two daughters Katriin (7-year-old) and Keidi (10-year-old), is also happy: “It’s interesting for children to do something together. It’s quite difficult to get them running by themselves, but with such a great company and altogether with other children – it is much easier! It’s fascinating for the children and gives them a great experience!”

Tartu Mini Complex Event 2013 third stage takes part already in three weeks, on 1st of June, when children cycle in Tartu City centre in SEB 31. Tartu Rattaralli bike races.

Tomorrow, on May 12th, the SEB 31st Tartu Jooksumaraton will be held with almost 4500 runners.
