All time high for Vasaloppet’s winter week for the sixth year in a row!

Vasaloppet’s winter week has this year attracted more registered entries than ever before. The old registration record, 63,142 from last year, is now broken. So far 63,200 participants have registered. Three of the races, KortVasan, Öppet Spår Sunday and StafettVasan, have also noted new registration records. HalvVasan and Öppet Spår Monday are also well on the way to new record numbers.

This is the sixth consecutive year that Vasaloppet’s winter week has set a new entry registration record. The races attracted 63,142 entries in 2012, 59,130 in 2011, 57,560 in 2010, 48,184 in 2009 and 47,636 in 2008.

Vasaloppet’s sports manager, Tommy Höglund, has this to say about these figures:
“When we look back on this development of Vasalopp arrangements over the last few years, it is really quite incredible. In 2007 winter was very late in coming and we had a dip in registrations. Now we have fantastic figures and we’re riding high on the training, health and fitness wave. People need a goal for all their training and so they place an entry for a race.”

“Apart from this entry registration record, I also believe that we are going to have a participant record as well since it’s been an extremely good winter; participants have registered entries very early and therefore have a longer time for all their training and preparations,” adds Tommy Höglund.

Just now there about 5,000 start places left for those who wish to take part in the winter week, and it is still possible to choose a race with distances between 3 to 90 kilometres – UngdomsVasan 3/5/7/9 km, KortVasan 30 km, HalvVasan 45 km and Öppet Spår Monday 90 km. Note that online registration must be done at the latest 10 February 2013.

“We’re rigging up right now for the all time biggest Vasaloppet winter week – we’ll be boiling up more blueberry soup than ever before!” concludes Tommy Höglund.

Footnote: Vasaloppet’s summer week 2013 has already 14,500 registered entries, which means that Vasaloppet’s total entry numbers have just about doubled in only six years!
