Official Training opened the event series of the 42nd Tartu Maraton

Official Training of the 42nd Tartu Maraton took place on the 20th of January in Otepää, Tehvandi. Almost 200 skiers gathered to open the event series of 42nd Tartu Maraton and at the same time FIS World Snow Day* was celebrated.

Official Training took participants from Otepää to Matu (the first service point on the day of the marathon) and back to Otepää, distance was 24 km. Official Training is a great place to try out your equipment as well as the course of the marathon with all the other marathon friends. Assar Kütt, the course master of club Tartu Marathon had a great chance to try out the self-made course and after the race Kütt said that the course is as good as the conditions allow it to be. “Of course we could use more snow in order to provide better conditions to skiers, but the course is good and allows skiing in classical as well as in skating technique,” says Kütt. Participants also affirmed that training together is very good and gives a taste of the marathon day. “The day of Tartu Maraton is a festival and the training together is like a rehearsal that everybody should take part in. Official Training is also a great opportunity to test the course and today it was good,” says Martti Sala, participant of the Official Training of 42nd Tartu Maraton.

Next events in the programme of 42nd Tartu Maraton are 2nd Tartu Ski Relay, Open Track 63, 31 and 16 km races and Tervis Pluss 12th Tartu Maraton Ladie’s Race that take place on the 10th of February. Children’s Races take place on the 16th of February and the main event 42nd Tartu Maraton is held on the 17th of February 2013.

FIS World Snow Day was meant to consist of two events – children’s race and the Official Training, but as the weather was really cold on Saturday night, the children’s races were unfortunately cancelled. Air temperature was minus 30 on the previous night.
