American Birkebeiner

Jessie Diggins and Gus Schumacher win American Birkebeiner 2024

It was not a typical year for the American Birkebeiner. Missing snow and mild temperatures for weeks before the event brought a big question mark over the 50th anniversary of the American Worldloppet member race. But huge effort of organizers, local institutions and countless volunteers made the weekend happen.

All the snow – both natural and artificial – was collected and concentrated on a 10 km loop. But this loop was in a perfect shape. Freezing temperatures on race day made the tracks very fast, so the winner time on the 50 km American Birkebeiner 2024 was 1:58:33 by the US American World Cup winner Gus Schumacher. Seven seconds behind him, Canadian Sam Hendry outsprinted local hero David Norris for place two.

In the ladie’s competition, how could it be different, US ski star Jessie Diggins won her first Birkie. Second place goes to Flora Dolci from France and the third podium to Alayna Sonnesyn.

New Worldloppet Masters

During the traditional Worldloppet Breakfast Ben Popp, Executive Director of American Birkebeiner awarded another Worldloppet Master.
