Birkebeinerrennet

Coming Saturday it is time for the 2024 edition of our Norwegian member race: The historic and traditional Birkebeinerrennet from Rena to Lillehammer. Every skier knows the skiing Eldorado Sjusjoen and everyone knows about the huge party going on there, during the Birkebeinerrennet. Cheers from happy people and thousands of Norway flags are highly needed at that point of the race. Specially this year:

There will be snow and strong wind in the mountains on Saturday, up against a fresh breeze, from the north. Together with snowfall, will lead to snowdrifts and tough conditions. Yr.no has a special weather forecast for Birken. This weather makes the waxing not an easy job, but Swix has waxing tips for the skiers of the 54 km race: Swix wax tip.

As every year, the individual participant must pack the rucksack in accordance with requirements seen in the race rules. Make sure you have the necessary contents in your bag such as windproof clothing, buff, woolen underwear, food and drink – which is specially needed under the challenging weather condition.

Transportation at Birkebeinerrennet 2024

The mild temperatures and wet areas in the parking slots at the start, mean that all private cars MUST park in the center of Rena. There will be free shuttle buses between the center and the start/Tingstadjordet. See map. It is not possible to drop off participants at the start, only in the center where shuttle buses drve to the start area.

The best solution for transportation on race day is booking a spot in one of the busses. They stop right at the start. See the bus timetable and  Book bus ticket . Deadline for bus booking is 20:00 the evening before the event.

Worldloppet Gathering before the race

All Worldloppet Passport Holders are invited to a VIP welcome in Haakons Hall. On Friday evening form 18:00 on we meet the main organizers of Birken and Worldloppet CEO Epp Paal for some drinks, snacks, welcome words and meets and greets.
