Juha Viljamaa and Angelo Corradini appointed as honorary president

After eight years as head of the Worldloppet International Ski Federation, Juha Viljamaa from Lahti/Finland is handing over the President title to Ben Popp from America. But, beside his remaining duties at the Finlandia Skimarathon, he remains a crucial part of the world federation for popular skiing: The delegates of Worldloppet’s member races unisono have decided to appoint the now-ex-president as honorary president.

Same counts for Marcialonga’s President Angelo Corradini. He has been Worldloppet’s President for 12 years before Viljamaa’s period. These two characters are obviously playing a big role in the world of popular skiing and have a big influence on the development of the sport. This is why Worldloppet wants them to stay connected to the federation:

“There are two reasons for this decision: First of all, both, Juha and Angelo, have done so much for Worldloppet and the sport of cross-country skiing and with appointing them as honorary president, we want to pay tribute to their efforts. Secondly, these two are visionaries. Their influence is only positive for our sports and with this title, we are keeping them involved.”, says Kristina Hallik from the Worldloppet Executive Board, which suggested this election.

“I am very grateful for this day: First of all, with Ben Popp, we are having a very professional and engaged new president. But I am also grateful for being elected as honorary president. In this way, I can stay part of this wonderful family and continue supporting the development of cross-country skiing.”, says Juha Viljamaa.

“As I am the only one remaining, who was there at the founding meeting of Worldloppet in Uppsala 1978, my connection to this federation is deep. I only wish the best for Worldloppet, a long life and a successful future. As honorary president I will do my best to support this great institution.”, are Angelo Corradini ‘s words to his election.
