Question 1: General Activity Level

What activity? I am working the whole day and the rest of the time I am recovering from working. If I have to go somewhere, I take the car. The longest walk I do, is from bed to toilet, and there I start to sweat.

I like to go for walks. Sometimes longer, sometimes just from home to the supermarket. I also like to do some ways cycling. I have started Pilates, yoga or gymnastics classes, but after some times I found more and more excuses to skip lessons. But basically I can walk for an hour without a near-death experience.

I am training several times a week. Cycling, running, skating, mountaineering? Count me in! Sometimes I even go to the gym and instead of posing in front of the mirrors, I really train there.

OK, I am not an elite athlete. But only because I have a job. In realty, I train almost as much as an elite. I spend way too much money on professional sports gear - but hey, I need it! A day without training? A waste of time.

Question 2: Cross-country skiing experience

The only experience I have with cross-country skiing is that I accidentally have zapped over it on TV. Sometimes I honk at roller skiers on the street.

During Covid I rented skis for the first time. I liked it, so I thought, this will be my new sport. I bought skis and tried them out several times. Let’s say, I can stand on skis, but not more yet.

I am practicing cross-country skiing for several months now. I glide over the snow and I enjoy it even. I am not a fast skier, but neither one of the slowest. Skiing speed is something above 6 km/h.

I can’t even remember that one winter snow has not stopped falling and I started skiing. Since then I am cross-country skiing every winter. I even remember times, when double poling wasn’t a thing.

Question 3: Skimarathon race experience

I won a participation medal in a 500 meters kids race in school. This was my last race experience.

I wanted to/have signed up for a beginners race under 10 km. I was not fast, nor did it look professionally, but I made it to the finish. Behind some kids, but I did.

I have finished my first ski marathon already. It was though, but I made it in passable time. I liked the experience and I think I can do more. Maybe even some more kilometers next time.

I am on my way of becoming a Worldloppet Master. I have skied between 3 and 5 ski marathons already. It is time for the next level.

Step 4

Survive! Finishing a ski marathon is a life time goal for me. It is not about the time, nor is it about a giving a good impression. I am also not aiming for being faster as my skiing buddy. I just want to make it from start to finish and get my finisher medal.

Spending a good time! It’s not my main goal to finish as fast as possible. It’s my goal to spend a great day of marathon skiing among other skiing enthusiasts. The journey is the goal. But still, I want to earn my finisher medal.

Achieving a fast finishing time! I know times of skiing buddies and I want to beat them. I know my training performance and I have set a certain time limit for myself. This I want to achieve.

Victory! I want to win. Maybe not the first place, but at least the podium. Or top 10. And if not in the overall ranking, I want to be among the best in my age group. And if not in the age group, I want to finish first of the group I was skiing the race together with. But I want to win!
