Sad news from Argentina: Ushuaia Loppet 2025 cancelled
“It is with great regret that we share the news of the cancellation of the 2025 Ushuaialoppet, which was scheduled to take place on August 17 in Ushuaia, Argentina.” The organizers of the Argentinian Worldloppet member, Club Andino Ushuaia (CAU), announced this difficult decision due to a combination of logistical, financial, and infrastructural challenges. They make hosting the event to standards of quality and safety required by FIS and Worldloppet impossible at this time.

Since becoming a member of the Worldloppet circuit in 2014, the Ushuaialoppet has held a special place in the global cross-country skiing community. Its unique setting in Tierra del Fuego has drawn skiers from across the globe, eager to stamp their Worldloppet passports at the southernmost Worldloppet ski marathon. Unfortunately, the deterioration of critical infrastructure on the Provincial Cross Country Ski Track, coupled with the withdrawal of key sponsors, has created insurmountable obstacles for the upcoming season.
The decision to pause the event is not taken lightly, but it reflects the organizers’ commitment to safety, quality, and the experience of all participants. The CAU has expressed their dedication to working with local authorities and stakeholders to restore the necessary conditions for the Ushuaialoppet to return stronger in future years. “We at Worldloppet stand with them during this challenging time, offering our full support as they navigate this temporary setback.”, says Gunnar Zlöbl, Worldloppet’s spokesman.

He continues: “While we deeply regret the absence of Ushuaialoppet from the 2025 calendar, we can remain optimistic about its future. I have visited this extraordinary race this summer and the spirit of cross-country skiing in Ushuaia and the dedication of the Argentinian skiing community is astonishing.”
