Merino Muster

Join the the Merino Muster whanau for 2025

Merino Muster sends an invitation to New Zealand to all Worldloppeters out there. We will celebrate the 30th Merino Muster on the 30th of August. Flights should be booked now to Queenstown NZ to take advantage of the cheaper airfares.

Worldloppet Masters should enter early to get a special Masters race bib. Participants should prepare to be mesmerized by Joe Wade, the local Māori tribe representative, who will deliver an electrifying traditional Māori greeting followed by an awe-inspiring Haka performed by the youth, challenging skiers to conquer the course. Joe’s powerful and passionate welcome will immerse in the rich cultural heritage and spirit of the event.

A spectacular new course, to celebrate the 30th edition will be prepared too. Snow Farm General Manager Sam Lee pulls out all the stops to ensure a top-notch skiing experience. Last year’s challenging conditions saw Sam dedicating extra hours to grooming the course, earning him a standing ovation at the evening prize-giving ceremony.

The annually visiting USA team members Jessie Diggins and Julia Kern, have been known to decorate finishers’ faces with glitter… and now, for 2025? They plan to return again. Also Campbell Wright fresh from his silver medals at the IBU World Championships, plans to race the Merino Muster while reconnecting with the local skiing community.

Wanaka offers a variety of bars, restaurants, and cafes, claiming great food. Activities include golf, vineyards, mountain biking, alpine and rock climbing, kayaking, bungy jumping, and farm animal views as well as a rugby field near the lake and lakeside strolls. Check Gunnar’s vlog from his journey to the Merino Muster two years ago.

Accommodation and transport that simplifies your trip is offered on Merino Muster’s Website. ‘Whanau’ is family in Māori but its meaning is far more embracing in a wider community sense than the English meaning. “The Merino Muster whanau would love you to join us. We offer a unique race experience worth the trip. Race with us once and you become part of the Merino Muster Whanau.  Merino Muster is a boutique experience for Worldloppet skiers, especially as NZ skiers thrive on meeting international skiers and take the time to get to know you by name.”, says Mary Lee from the OC.
