Dolomitenlauf 2026: Classic Finale in the Fog crowns Italian Champions and Local Heroes
The 56th Dolomitenlauf came to a close today in Obertilliach with the traditional Classic Race over 20 km and 40 km. While yesterday’s skating races were held under blue skies, dense fog accompanied the athletes on Sunday, adding an extra challenge to the king’s discipline of classic technique. Nevertheless, around 600 skiers from 34 nations once again experienced perfectly prepared tracks at the Biathlonzentrum Osttirol.

In the long-distance men’s race, Italy dominated the day. Lorenzo Busin confirmed his exceptional form by claiming his third Dolomitenlauf victory, edging out Francesco Ferrari in a tight sprint finish, with Stefano Mich completing an all-Italian podium. On the women’s side, local favorite Anna Schmidhofer came heartbreakingly close to a historic home victory, finishing second behind her Trentino Internorm team colleague Malin Börjesjö. For Schmidhofer, the result felt like a win: a strong confirmation of her development after last year’s third place.
The shorter 20 km races also delivered exciting finishes. Italy’s Thomas Rinner prevailed in the men’s race ahead of yesterday’s skating winner Marius Bauer, while Toni Escher once again secured third place. In the women’s competition, Alexandra Danner celebrated her first-ever Dolomitenlauf victory, completing a strong weekend after already finishing second in Saturday’s skating race.
