Dolomiten Lauf

Dolomitenlauf with alternative race course ready for 2026’s edition

From 16 to 18 January 2026, the 56th Dolomitenlauf will take place in Obertilliach, Austria. Once again around 1,500 participants from more than 30 nations are awaited on the snow-sure trails of Osttirol. Even tough winter has not been very snowy in Central Europe so far, preparations are well underway, and conditions in Obertilliach are considered among the most reliable in the Alps. So the Dolomitenlauf 2026 is going to take place, but on an alternative race course.

“More Enjoyment, Fewer Climbs”

The key focus for 2026 is a revised course concept designed to enhance the skiing experience. Following extensive feedback from past editions, the organizers have optimized the routes to feature fewer elevation gains and more flowing sections. “The aim is to make the race more enjoyable and accessible, especially for Worldloppet skiers, while preserving the sporting challenge that defines the Dolomitenlauf.“, says OC chief Franz Theurl.

Compact Stadium Concept and International Field

Even tough Obertilliach is covered in white, there was too few natural snow over the past weeks to prepare a proper track on the original course. So all races will start and finish at the Biathlon Stadium Obertilliach, which serves as the vibrant heart of the event. The 10-km-course, which has to be done 4 times leads through the scenic Lesachtal. Skiers return multiple times to the stadium, creating a lively atmosphere for athletes and spectators alike. These repeated stadium passages ensure excellent logistics, strong crowd support, and top-level infrastructure.

More natural snow is predicted for the next days, but this concept provides maximum reliability and the best prepared race course for an enjoyable and save experience.

Alongside many passionate amateur skiers, the 2026 edition will also feature an international elite field, including last year’s runners-up Heli Heiskanen (FIN) and Francesco Ferrari (ITA).
