In Memory of Hannes Larsson
The Worldloppet family mourns the passing of Hannes Larsson, one of the most dedicated and inspiring skiers in Worldloppet history.

Hannes Larsson, known to many Worldloppet skiers simply as Hannes, passed away in Valence, France, on 8 June 2026 at the age of 95. For decades, he was a familiar face at Worldloppet races around the globe and a true symbol of lifelong passion for cross-country skiing.
“One of the best leaders and promoters of our idea of Worldloppet has left us. Good journey, dear Hannes! And thank you for everything you have done for us.”, says Angelo Corradini, Worldloppet Honorary President.
His Worldloppet journey began even before the federation was officially founded, with his first race at the Dolomitenlauf in 1977. From there, Hannes went on to complete an extraordinary 34 Worldloppet passports, earning 27 Gold Master and 7 Silver Master titles. For many years, he was the record holder in Worldloppet participations and Master titles.
But Hannes’ legacy is much more than numbers. He showed generations of skiers that the joy of long-distance skiing has no age limit. Even beyond the age of 80, he continued to take part in challenging events, encouraging others with his determination, curiosity, and love for the international Worldloppet community.
Hannes often described Worldloppet as a way to meet people from all over the world and to make friends across countries and cultures. Through his skiing, his writing, and his involvement with the International Association of Worldloppet Skiers, he helped shape the spirit of Worldloppet: friendship, endurance, respect, and the shared love of snow.
We remember Hannes Larsson with deep gratitude — as a pioneer, a passionate skier, and an inspiration to many.
Our sincere condolences go to his family, friends, and all who shared tracks, travels, and memories with him.
Rest in peace, Hannes.
