Living the Year-Round Birkie Lifestyle at Mt. Telemark Village
When most people hear “Birkie,” they picture thousands of skiers making their way from Cable to Hayward, Wisconsin in February. But the Birkie experience doesn’t end when the snow melts. The American Birkebeiner Ski Foundation creates opportunities to get outside, challenge yourself, and connect with the community all year long at the ever-growing Mt. Telemark Village.
Spring & Summer: Ride, Run, Disc & Explore
When the snow disappears, the trails take on a whole new life. At Mt. Telemark Village, mountain bikers can shred 16-miles of gravity on the Trek Trails powered by OTM and access over 100 miles cross-country singletrack connecting into the greater CAMBA trail system. Runners and hikers can traverse the elevation up to the Kawabaming (Ojibwe for “a place to look out from”) Observation Tower while disc golfers enjoy the challenge of the brand new 18-hole courses. Events like Epic Bike Fest and Stride de She provide great opportunities for not only competition but also community and connection.
Fall: Experience the Northwoods
Cool temperatures and changing leaves make fall one of the best times to explore the Birkie Trail. The Midwest’s premiere running festival, the Rossignol Birkie Trail Run, provides seven different running events on one day, this year on September 26. Bikers can look forward to the region’s only enduro race taking place October 10. The autumn beauty is short-lived, but draws many to run, hike, bike, or simply spend a day outside enjoying more than 100 kilometers of trail stretching through Wisconsin’s Northwoods.
Winter: Where It All Comes Together
Once the snow flies, skiing takes center stage. From everyday skiing to events like Seeley Hills Classic, Ski de She and Birkie Training Weekend erach winter to this year hosting Senior Nationals, the winter truly brings out the world-class cross-country ski destination Mt. Telemark Village was made to be. And it all leads up to the excitement of American Birkebeiner Week- this year celebrating it’s 53rd annual race.
