OC announces: Dolomitenlauf 2019 is going to take place

Even though some parts of Austria are having real trouble with masses of snow, East Tyrol, the home of the Dolomitenlauf, is not one of them. Unfortunately, the massive snow front that reached Austria during the past days, didn’t make it to the Dolomites. But nevertheless, the organizers of the Dolomitenlauf announce, that there are enough snow & cold temperatures to hold the 45th Dolomitenlauf as planned.

Good conditions on Dolomitenlauf trails

The most important news first: “The 45th Dolomitenlauf is going to take place! We’ve already prepared the tracks and they are in perfect condition. Several biathlon and cross-country skiing national teams trained on our race course during the past weeks!”, confirms Franz Theurl, the organizer.

So next weekend the Austrian Worldloppet race is going to welcome all popular skiers from all around the world including the world’s elite of marathon skiing: The Dolomitenlauf 2019 represents the second stage of the FIS Worldloppet Cup 2019. Both, the Dolomiten-Classicrace on Saturday & the Dolomitenlauf (free technique) on Sunday are going to lead over their original length of 42 km for the long distance (Worldloppet Gold Master) and 20 km for the short distance (Worldloppet Silver Master). Currently, it seems like the participants have to ski two loops, which means they are going to pass the ski stadium of Obertilliach – and the spectators – two times.

If the weather forecast is right, and it’s going to snow at the beginning of the coming week, it is possible, that the race course is going to lead over the Tannwiese, which means it wouldn’t be two loops to go but one big and half a loop. If the popular skiers will have the joy to finish their Dolomitenlauf again in the centre of Obertilliach village will be decided during the next days.

Weather forecast & program

The weather forecast for Obertilliach predicts some natural snow coming during the weekend and at the beginning of the coming week. In combination with temperatures between zero and minus 5 degrees, this should provide the best conditions for the race weekend from 18th to 20th January.

The Biathlon Center of Obertilliach again is going to be the venue of all three competitions, the Classicrace on Saturday, the traditional main race & FIS Worldloppet Cup stage 2, the Dolomitenlauf on Sunday & also the exciting Dolomitensprint on Friday, where several top-sprinters are going to fight for prize money and glory.

If you think you can compete in the Dolomitensprint, here is good news: Some start places are still available. Just send an email to the organizers:
