Update from Japan: Sapporo Skimarathon Course with alternative route
Unfortunately the usually snow-blessed region around Sapporo is experiencing another winter with shortage of snow. Due to that, the organizers had to come to a decision, how to carry out the 46th Sapporo Skimarathon coming weekend, February 1st.

Instead of a 50 km original race course, a loop of 10 km has been prepared. This loop will be completed four times for the gold race and two times for the silver race. Also the start times have changed:
- 40 km Gold race – 09:00
- 20 km Silver race – 09:20
The new cut-off times are 2,5h at kilometer mark 20 and 3,5h at kilometer mark 30. At the short race the time-limit is 1,5h at kilometer mark 10. The refreshment stations are located in the Shirahatayama Open Stadium (km 10, 20, 30 and finish) and at Chuo Pass (km 8, 16, 24 and 32).

This alternative scenario is going to lead to an increased traffic on the tracks. The Sapporo Skimarathon staff is going to give instructions in order to avoid any accidents.
“We appreciate your understanding and cooperation in order to ensure a safe and smooth operation in accordance with FIS and Worldloppet regulations.”, says Masayo Fuji from the OC.
The Worldloppet Welcome Party is going to take place on Saturday 31st at 14:00. All Worldloppeters are welcome – drinks, snacks, entertainment and awardings are awaiting you.
