Vasaloppet China kicking off Worldloppet winter season 2026
Tomorrow, January 4th, the Vasaloppet China is going to kick-off the Worldloppet winter 2026. Only a few days after New Year’s Eve, Vasaloppet China has become a major date in the global cross-country ski calendar. Also this year the main race leads over 50 km and the silver race over 25 km. A 6 km and even a 1.5 km and a 0.3 km race is on the program for beginners and first timers.

As usual, there is only few natural snow covering the Jingyuetan Park and the frozen lakes of it, but since the temperatures are constantly way below zero, the organizers have been producing artificial snow over the past months. With masses of artificial snow, not only the 25 km race course (2 loops for the main race) has been prepared perfectly, but also the world famous snow- and ice sculptures were formed by various artists.

Over 700 skiers will stand on the starting line tomorrow 10:00am local time (03:00am CET). Beside strong competition from China’s best marathon skiers, many international skiers have made their way to Changchun. Specially to mention a strong group of Worldloppeters from Poland with about 30 people registered. We are also awaiting multiple new Worldloppet Masters and Global Skiers to award at tomorrow night’s Vasaloppet China Night Gala.
When it comes to the question about tomorrow’s victory, the Czech Fabian Stocek is the man to defeat. He is holding the title of Vasaloppet China Champion from last year. He gets strong competition from the Italian team Internorm with Lorenzo Busin and Tommaso Dellagiacoma and also from Germany with Christian Winker, who also already has a podium place at Vasaloppet China. In the female’s competition the favorites are coming from China, Sweden, Czechia and Norway. With temperatures between – 7 and – 15 degrees the race is definitely going to be challenging.
