Worldloppet season kicking off in the New Year with Vasaloppet China
All set to go on January 4th, 2020 in Changchun
Vasaloppet China is getting ready for its 18th edition in Jingyuetan Park in Changchun on January 4th 2020 and it is the sixth time hosting the Worldloppet stage. From this year our event is also included in the Challengers series from Visma Ski Classics.
At this moment we have 990 registrations in total for 50 km, 25 km and 2,5 km and they represent 30 nations. But we still wait for some team to register, means we can reach the magic number of 1000 participants. The main race in Vasaloppet China is 50 km (two loops) and you can also do the one lap, 25 km. For students, learning skiing, the Vasa Fun race is 2,5 km.
Also in 2020 China University Cross-Country Skiing Championship is included on the 25 km distance and totally 153 college students takes part. The number of participants in this category has increased with more than 50% from last year which shows that winter sport activities attracts the students.
China national team are in Europe for preparations and to take part in World Cup competitions. If we look into the foreign elite skiers that will be on start, we have interesting names from some Visma Ski Classics teams. From Norway comes Team Parkettpartner Sjusjøen and Team XPND and from Germany, Team Nordic People.
There are many strong individual skiers who will fight for the victory. Among Women we can mention a skier who keep an extra eye on; Polina Kalsina, RUS, with 98 starts in World Cup and with 3 World Championships. Here is three favourites to mention in the male category; Fabian Stocek, CZE, Vinjar Skogsholm, NOR, representing Team Parkettpartner Sjusjøen and Eric Storvall, FIN.
The last week have had some natural snow coming down, means that participants will have the winter feeling, but as usual the whole ski track are done by artificial snow and the track team reports that the 25 km loop, means two loops for the main race of 50 km, are well prepared by the groomers. Part of the track will be available for test and training on January 3rd and the final track preparation will be done later that day.
Groups from travel partners have started to arrive in China, some are doing the sightseeing part in Beijing ahead of the competitions while most have it after the days in Changchun. On January 5th, in the early morning after the magnificent prize giving banquet, more than 100 skiers travel by fast speed train down to Beijing.
The weather forecast for race day says -14 degrees Celsius in the early morning and increasing up to -7 degrees Celsius as the sun rise. It seems to become a very sunny and nice day for the participants and spectators. The start will be at 10am and live broadcasted on China national TV, CCTV.
As usual the ski arena has a marvelous setting with a lot of incredible snow sculptures, probably one of the biggest snow sculpture parks in the world. The main sculpture is a miniature of The Great Wall, and have the measurements of 100x25x20 meters!< Back
