5000 skiers ready to start the Bieg Piastow

The main weekend of the 47th Bieg Piastów – Cross-Country Skiing Festival in Szklarska Poręba-Jakuszyce is ahead of us. Its program includes four races, including three belonging to Worldloppet: 25, 30 and 50 km. Snow conditions are great! On Sunday, March 5, the Queen of Polish Skis, Justyna Kowalczyk-Tekieli, will also stand on the start line.

The Olympic and world champion and multiple World Cup winner has ended her professional career, but she maintains an excellent shape and willingly participates in ski marathons. She has already won two this season, including the renowned Estonian Tartu Marathon over a distance of 63 km. In Bieg Piastów, she will ski 25 km.

This will be Justyna Kowalczyk’s fifth start in Bieg Piastów. In 2017 and 2019 she won the 50 km competition. In 2020 and 2022 she was second – at 25 and 50 km.

25 countries, 5,000 racers

On the starting lists of the main weekend of Bieg Piastów, about five thousand competitors from 25 countries, apart from Poland, most of them from the Czech Republic (over 370), Germany (170), Estonia and Iceland. There are also participants from New Zealand, Canada and the USA.

The greatest interest is enjoyed by the 25 km distance, on which the organizers from the Bieg Piastów Association expect two thousand applications. The crown fifty found over 1,600 racers, and the thirty 600.

Last year’s winners, Michał Skowron and Adela Boudikova Rocarkova, will take part in the 50 km race.

New arena as start and finish venue

The start and finish of Bieg Piastów at all distances is the new ski and biathlon stadium in Polana Jakuszycka. The entire logistics base is arranged in a new building right next to the stadium – in the Lower Silesian Sports Center Polana Jakuszycka. Starting numbers are issued here, there are changing rooms, showers, catering.

The results of the 47th Bieg Piastów over 25, 30 and 50 km are included in the Worldloppet, and over 6, 25, 30 and 50 km to the SkiTour cross-country cycle. Events accompanying the expo sports equipment fair and the 1st Winter Sports and Tourism Forum – presentations and activities of people from the sports and tourism industry. Also a Worldloppet table was part of this forum, with president Juha Viljamaa, CEO Epp Paal, David Dousa from Jizerska 50 and the president of Bieg Piastów Maciej Pawłowski.
