54 years of Dolomitenlauf – “Everyone a winner above themselves”

Austria’s biggest cross-country skiing event with guaranteed snow for professionals and amateurs.
From 19 to 21 January 2024 it’s that time again: Austria’s biggest cross-country skiing event, the Dolomitenlauf, will once again take place in East Tyrol on a snow-white stage. More than 2,000 athletes from all over the world now take part in the international competition, which can look back on 54 years of racing history.
Under the motto “Everyone a winner above themselves”, Olympic champions, world champions, professionals and amateurs face the sporting challenge over 25 or 60 kilometres in classic style. The venue for the legendary winter sports event is – depending on snow conditions – the Dolomite town of Lienz and the romantic mountain village of Obertilliach, at 1,450 metres above sea level the highest village in the East Tyrolean Lesachtal.

Snow guarantee or money back
In the past 15 years, the Dolomitenlauf has never been cancelled due to snow conditions. Thanks to the cooperation with the East Tyrolean cross-country skiing hotspot Obertilliach, there has always been a snow-secure alternative course. Apart from that, the skating competition on 20 January 2024 over 42/20 km will be held in the biathlon stronghold of Obertilliach anyway. On Sunday, 21 January, the traditional Dolomitenlauf will be held in classic style over 42/20. The 54th Dolomitenlauf will also feature a very special novelty, which was held for the first time in 2023: a Dolomitenlauf Easy Race over 5 km in free or classic style – to get a taste of the fascinating Nordic world, so to speak.
So every participant can be assured that the Dolomitenlauf 2024 will be a personal sports experience according to the motto “Everybody a winner over themselves”. In this context, there is a snow guarantee from the organiser or, in case of cancellation, the entry fee will be credited for 2025 or a refund will be given.

Part of our mission from the beginning on
Since our founding back in 1978 in Uppsala/Sweden, it is the goal of Worldloppet, to promote the sport of cross-country skiing worldwide through our members and to promote friendship without borders. The Dolomitenlauf – more precisely the Lienz Cross-Country Skiing and Cycling Club, who is the organizers and host of Dolomitenlauf for 54 years now – is one of the founding members, hence part of our mission from the beginning on.

Every participation in one of our member competitions is an achievement and should be registered, recorded and stamped in your personal Worldloppet passport. Many journeys to becoming a Worldloppet Master have started in Lienz at the Dolomitenlauf already.
