Global Ski Marathon Ranking Launched at Ushuaialoppet
Only two days remain, until the new season of marathon skiing is going to be kicked off by the first Worldloppet race, the Ushuaialoppet in Tierra del Fuego, Argentina, the so-called “fin del mundo” (end of the world). There, Worldloppet is bringing big news into the new ski marathon season: The Gloabl Ski Marathon Ranking.
Austral snow guarantees a great season kick-off
Abundant snowfalls over the past weeks have ensured proper track preparations in Tierra del Fuego/ARG. The organizers of the Ushuaialoppet have been able to prepare a 25-km-loop which will be skied twice for the Worldloppet Gold race, the Ushuaialoppet (50 km, classic technique). The participants of the Marchablanca, the Worldloppet silver race (25 km, free technique), are going to ski the loop once. Both races are going to take place on Sunday, 18th August.

“Skiers from fifteen different countries have registered for Ushuaialoppet and will stamp their Worldloppet Passports at the “End of the World” in Tierra del Fuego.”
Pablo Valcheff, CEO Ushuaialoppet
Gloabl Ski Marathon Ranking launched
As recently communicated, the Worldloppet Ski Federation decided to increase the focus on popular skiers & bring the world of marathon skiing together more closely. Therefore a new project was borne: The Global Ski Marathon Ranking! It is bringing each and every one of the hundreds of thousands of skiers starting in the numerous ski marathons around to globe together into one world ranking. Combined with the Global Ski Marathon Calendar, which unites all ski marathon dates & results in one place, it builds up the new Global Ski Marathon Community.
This ranking is going to be launched coming Sunday at the Ushuaialoppet. hen every participant of the race can find himself in the Global Ski Marathon Ranking, visible on the Worldloppet Website.
From this weekend on, all skiers will get ranking points at all long-distance races joined the Global Ski Marathon Calendar (it will be published in September 2019). These points will be calculated by a simple formula taking the number of participants, position, winner time and participants time into account and the average of the best 3 results over the past 24 months will be shown (the formula and all other information about the GSMR are visible on the Worldloppet website).
In first line, the Global Ski Marathon Ranking should be a useful tool for organizers for seeding purposes and a new thrilling challenge for every athlete. After the season the highest-ranked athlete of each age group will be awarded.
