The Worldloppet Virtual Racing League – short, Virtual Racing – is our answer to these weird times! As the world federation for popular skiing, we have to face the fact, that COVID19 is changing our beloved sport and passion, at least for this upcoming season. We have to consider cancellations, travel restrictions, limitations etc. To face these possible problems, the race organizers came up with a new race format: The virtual races.
The virtual race format
Virtual races can be a good replacement for cancelled races or a possibility for those who can not travel to the race venue. The participants register for a certain distance and technique and then do the race wherever they are, alone or with friends. The session should be recorded by phone or sports watch, the file will be uploaded to the results list and the participant receives a diploma (and/or medal, t-shirt…).
Worldloppet Virtual Racing League
The Worldloppet Virtual Racing League is combining all the virtual race formats of Worldloppet Member Races to one league. We created a system similar to the well known Worldloppet Passport & Master system: Every athlete who completes 7 virtual races from 7 different countries achieves the title „Virtual Racer“. All available disciplines and distances are valid. This is not replacing the Worldloppet Master title and also not valid for the Worldloppet Passports, but it is an addition, to keep the popular skiing community together in times like these. It is also a once-in-a-lifetime-chance, to get a title, available only now.
As you know it from the Worldloppet Master title, you will receive a Diploma for achieving your Virtual Racer title. We also provide a special Virtual Racer T-shirt, ready to order when achieving the title.
But what is a race league with out prizes? Among all athletes who achieve the title Virtual Racer this season, we will raffle great prizes from our member races and also from our partners like Northug Eyewear or the FIS.
Virtual Racing Facebook Group
COMMUNITY! … is the reason for the whole project. So everybody who is part of the game is invited to join the Virtual Racing Facebook Group and exchange experiences, pictures, achievements, joy and efforts there. The more we are, the more we communicate, the more fun!

Why we do this
Nobody knows how long this situation will last. We all hope, that after the upcoming winter, Virtual Racing is not necessary anymore, or only as an addition, because we all can travel to our well known and beloved races all around the globe again. But we don’t know it. Maybe Virtual Racing will become part of our future.
Anyhow, Worldloppet, as world federation of popular skiing, will always make every effort possible, to keep the popular skiing family together: Skiers, elite, race organizers, race series’, sponsors… This is our goal with Worldloppet Virtual Racing.

If you want to be part of Virtual Racing and work on becoming a Virtual Racer, you have to login to your MyLoppet Profil, or register. This profile is connected to all virtual races available and helps us validating your participations, collecting the race results and providing detailed analysis of your race efforts. Your title and diploma will also be stored and shown there.
