American Birkebeiner 2024 shortened to 30 km
Yesterday evening the organizers of the American Birkebeiner have invited to the final Live Q&A stream to announce the final decisions. The good news: The 50th Anniversary edition of the American Birkebeiner is going to take place on February 23rd and 24th. But the course has to be adapted due to lack of snow and mild weather.
In two weeks we are going to celebrate the 50th anniversary of our American member race, the iconic American Birkebeiner. Unfortunately, the weather in Wisconsin/USA is the same like in Central Europe at the moment: Mild and no snow in sight. But the organizers have been able to produce a lot of artificial snow. After evaluations of weather forecast and the current snow and track conditions the organizers now can announce, that the race is going to take place. But it has to be shortened from 50 to 30 km (silver race from. 30 km to 20 km) done on a 10 km loop.
