Best winter conditions for the 44th Sapporo Skimarathon

For the 44th time the Sapporo International Ski Marathon is going to take place coming Sunday, 4th February. And for the 2nd tim the Shirahatayama Open Stadium will be the main venue. Today, the tracks have been opened and many skiers tested them under great conditions. – 11℃ guarantee, that the thick layer of natural snow remains and the tracks are compact.

In total around 900 skiers are gathering in Sapporo, Japan’s wintersports capital, 120 of them are foreign participants. Tomorrow open skiing and a Worldloppet welcome party is planned. Masters, passport holders and other skiers can meet with the organizers and the Worldloppet CEO, Epp Paal. New Masters will also be awarded.

Also the weather forecast is promising a great race day on February 4th. Temperatures between 0℃ and -6℃ and partly even slight snow fall. “We feel so happy to have so many skiers in Sapporo, not only from Japan but from around the world!”, says Masayo Fujii, SSM Spokesperson.
