Canada, Estonia and Finland: Worldloppet triple weekend ahead

The next two days Worldloppet is guest in three different nations. In Estonia, the Tartu Maraton is going to take place for the 48th time, while in Gatineau/Canada the Gatineau Loppet is welcoming the Worldloppet skiers. In Lahti the postponed Finlandia Hiihto is standing on the program.

Fresh snow for Gatineau

While it was raining in the beginning of the week in Gatineau/Ottawa, the temperatures have dropped yesterday and over night a 15-20 cm layer of fresh snow has been falling. Nevertheless the original race course of Gatineau Loppet had to be adapted for the 44th edition of Canada’s Worldloppet race. Between 1500 and 2000 skiers are going to be part of the 47 km and 24 km races in classic and in skating technique.

Tartu Maraton ready for 6000 skiers

The 48th Tartu Maraton will be held on this Sunday, February 20th, on the classic Otepää-Elva route. Although the snow has been melting in recent days, the trail is still in good condition. The final touch will be given by the track master on Saturday night.

The weather has not been the best for the track on the last few days, but Tartu Maraton track master Assar Kütt and chief organizer Indrek Kelk are still optimistic.

“It seems that the weather has not made damage on our track and it should be pretty good by Sunday. Most of the track, despite this intermediate melt, is still rather good. Today, track master Assar Kütt will start doing the track from Otepää, but the main work will be done on the last night,” Indrek Kelk explains the current track situation.

Changes on the main marathon day

Up to 2 000 participants are allowed at Tehvandi Stadium at a time. The start corridors for the first 2 waves (numbers 1-2000) will be opened at 9:45, except the elite, which will be opened at 9:51.
Start numbers 2001-3000 are allowed to enter the stadium after the start of the first wave at 10:05.

It is mandatory to wear mask before the start (except during the warm-up) and after the finish. In the shuttle bus and at the finish, you may get the mask from the organiser if necessary.
The location of the finish line for this year’s marathon and the location of the services have changed.
