Covid-Update: Dolomitenlauf 2022 taking place in Obertilliach

Since the 1970s, Obertilliach has become a substitute venue for the traditional Dolomitenlauf. Last continuously from 2010 to 2019. The 50th anniversary of the Dolomitenlauf was celebrated with the finish on the main square in Lienz. Now, in 2022, the Dolomitenlauf will once again take place in Obertilliach.

On January 22nd the free technique race is going to take place, on 23rd the classic main race. Both techniques will be held on a 42 and a 25 km course.

The organizers count with about 1000 participants. Usually 80 percent of the starting field are international skiers, but this will probably not be the case, as many overseas guest won’t be able to make their journey. But on the other hand a higher number of local skiers is expected: “Due to the recent boom in cross-country skiing among the local population in Osttirol. In the valleys, the number of cross-country skiing enthusiasts has more than tripled since the past few years. This leads us to expect that many people from Osttirol will also take part in the Dolomitenlauf 2022, at least over the short distance of 20 km.”, hopes Franz Theurl, Chief of OC.
