Einarsson and Pessey win Fossavatnsgangan under Icelandic conditions
The mountains of Isafjördur welcomed the skiers of Fossavatnsgangan 2022 with real Icelandic conditions: Wind, fresh snow, cold. Even more impressive are the performances of the athletes. In total 233 skiers started in wave starts over the 50 km track and all of them have made it to the finish. The fastest among them were the Icelandic local hero Snorri Einarsson and in the ladies competition one of the few internationals who made it to Isafjördur took the victory: Iris Pessey (Ski Marathon Team Austria) from France.

Both skied in a different league and finished with a huge gap to their competitors. Usually the participants of Worldloppet’s season ender can enjoy spring weather, but not this year. Strong wind and phased heavy snowfalls (in addition to 1.250 m altitude) made the race a true Icelandic challenge for all participants. In addition many skiers have chosen the wrong wax due to the recent snow falls. But all made it to the finish and there one could only see happy faces.

Thanks Fossavatnsgangan one more time for a worthy season ender!
