A total of 300 competitors were ready on the starting line for the 50-kilometer race at 8 am Saturday morning. Additionally, 92 competitors participated in the 25-kilometer race and 37 in the 12.5-kilometer race.

“The competition went exceptionally well this year, better than we dared to hope, as the lack of snow has been a concern for us,” says Kristbjörn Róbert Sigurjónsson, better known as Bobbi, one of the organizers of Fossavatnsgangan. “It was great fun and all smiles at the finish line, no doubt in part because the weather was so nice, almost calm, a bit foggy in the higher parts of the route, but no rain.”

The 50 km route had to be shortened to 46 km, because of lack of snow, but contestants agreed that the race course conditions were allover good, with plenty of gliding.
